Dear Members:

On behalf of this year's officers, I welcome all of you to the 2011-2012 seasons of HSCP programs. Due to the strong leadership of our past officers, continuing support of each academic and private pathology institutions and most importantly the participation of our members, HSCP has been a dynamic society that we have been proud of for the last six decades.

We are grateful to last year's officers for their dedicated work. We especially recognize Dr. Tina Fanning for her role as the previous president for a wonderful year and her continued support for our 2011-2012 activities. We thank Drs. Dorothy Willis, Beka Yorke,
Jessie Adame and John Milam for spearheading the review and revision of the Bylaws, a task that was last done twenty years ago. The revised bylaws will be distributed to the membership for approval this year.

We give many thanks to Drs. Mary Schwartz and Adel El Naggar for organizing an excellent Spring Symposium on Head & Neck Pathology. The symposium was well-attended and well-received. We are please to announce that this year's HSCP Spring Symposium will be an unprecedented two-day event and jointly organized by The
Methodist Hospital Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine on the topic of Lung Pathology and Advanced Lung Cancer Seminar on April 28-29, 2012. Under the direction of Dr. Philip Cagle, the Symposium is well underway. Please see the details on our website;
  early registration is available. The speakers include a group of world class
pathologists and leader in lung cancer diagnosis and treatment. We are delighted to announce that 2012 Harlan J. Spjut Award recipient is Dr. Thomas Wheeler. We look forward to honoring him at the Spjut Award Dinner on April 28th during the HSCP Spring Symposium. Many thanks to Dr.
Richard Hausner, the chair of the Spjut Award Committee, and to the members of the committee for making this selection among our many outstanding nominees.

Our Scientific Program Chair, Dr. Bhuvaneswari Krishnan, has lined up an outstanding program. We open our first scientific meeting with a lecture from Dr. Tina Fanning, last year's president and professor of pathology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with the topic of
"Liposarcoma: the Big Skinny on Fatty Tumors." We will post future dates, speakers and topics on thew website and send membership flyers on Yahoo Groups and Google Groups, to announce upcoming meetings. We look forward to seeing you at these meetings. This year's holiday party is tentatively scheduled for December 7, 2011 but we will keep you updated on any changes.
